Extraocular Structures Inside the Orbit of the Eye INTRODUCTION The Retrobulbar block injection is commonly practised around the world(2).In the beginning, regional anaesthesia of the eye consisted of retrobulbar anaesthesia (RBA), with the surgeon performing the block(6). This anaesthesia can be administered with an intraconal block(1). It consists of an equal mixture of lidocaine (2%-4%) and bupivacaine (0.75%) with up to 15 units of hyaluronidase (1). A sharp needle with 27 gauge 31mm is inserted in the interolateral border of the orbit(3). The needle passes through all the rectus and oblique muscles of the eye(2). The rectus muscles include superior rectus muscle, interior rectus muscle, lateral rectus muscle and medial rectus muscle(2). The two oblique muscles are interior and superior oblique muscles(2). The optic nerve and arteries should be avoided(2). This essay explains the extraocular structures inside the orbit of the eye. Anatomy Orbital openings The lateral wall of the orbit consists of superior orbital fissure and the floor of the orbit involves the inferior orbital fissure (2). The superior orbital fissure brings the frontal, lacrimal, oculomotor, trochlear, nasociliary, abducent nerves and superior ophthalmic vein(7). Thinning of the sclera and posterior globe enlargement can occur(7).A bulge in This average globe diameter occupy approximately 7ml of the orbit where as the total structures are packed in 30ml space, so the remaining space is filled with fat, nerves, extraocular muscles, lacrimal gland, vascular structures and connective tissue(5). The needle is inserted in the fat filled areas inside the orbit(5). Needle trauma can occur with eyes with posterio r staphyloma(7). The cavity of the orbit has a posterior apex with a pyramid shape(6). The orbit is made up of mainly adipose tissue(6). Anteriorly, the 4 rectus muscles of the eye insert near the equator of the globe(6). Posteriorly, these four rectus muscles insert together at the apex on the tendinous annulus communis of Zinn, through which the optic nerve enters the orbit(6).The four rectus muscles define the retrobulbar cone of the orbit, that is not closed by any intermuscular membrane(6). Sensory innervation is supplied by the ophthalmic nerve first branch of the fifth nerve that is trigeminal nerve, which passes through the retrobulbar cone(6). The ophthalmic nerve and oculomotor nerve passes through the retrobulbar cone(6). Injection of local anaesthesia solution inside the retrobulbar cone will provide anesthesia(6). It also provides akinesia of the globe and the extraocular muscles(6). E The superior branch of the facial nerve gives motor supply to the orbicularis muscle of the eyelids whi ch has an extraorbital course(6). Many major structures are situated in the retrobulbar cone which gives rise to major risk factors in needle and injection injury(6). Many complications may occur when needle is inserted into the retrobulbar (intraconal) space, so doctors prefer to inject in the extraconal space(8). The rectus muscles are in close contact with the orbital bone so the extraconal space is only a minute space compared with the retrobulbar space(6). The retrobulbar space is located inside the extraocular muscle cone which is behind the globe(4). Comparatively avascular areas of the orbit are restricted to the anterior orbit in the inferotemporal (lower outer) and superotemporal (upper outer) quadrants(4). The superonasal quadrant is rich in blood supply and has limited space(4). Extraocular muscles The extraocular muscles of the eye includes four rectus and two oblique muscles which allow elevation, depression, adduction and abduction, medial and lateral rotation(7). The origin of the superior rectus muscle rises from the annulus of Zinn(7). It then passes forwards and laterally to be inserted into sclera which is about 7.7mm behind the corneoscleral junction(7). The superior rectus muscle is supplied by the superior division of the oculomotor nerve(7). This nerve crosses through the inferior surface of this muscle (intraconal)(7). The orgin of the inferior rectus muscle arises from the annulus of Zinn below the optic foramen(7). It then passes forwards and laterally to be inserted into the sclera which is about 6.5mm from the corneoscleral junction(7). It is supplied by the inferior division of the oculomotor nerve(7). The orgin of the lateral rectus muscle runs from the lateral part of tendinous ring(7). There is also a smaller head arising from sphenoid a little laterally(7) . The lateral rectus muscle is inserted into the sclera about 6.9mm from the corneosceral junction(7). It is supplied by the abducent nerve on its intraconal aspect(7). The orgin of the medial rectus muscle is from the medial aspect of the annulus of Zinn. This muscle passes along the medial orbital wall. It is inserted into the sclera about 5.5mm from the limbus. It is supplied by the inferior division of the oculomotor nerve on its intraconal aspect. The superior oblique muscle is the longest and the most slender muscle compared to the other eye muscles. It orginates from the body of the sphenoid bone superomedial to the optic canal. It passes forward and its long tendon passes through the trochlea which is attached to the trochlear fossa of the frontal bone. The tendon of the superior oblique muscle passes downwards, backwards and laterally. It then passes inferior to the superior rectus muscle. It is inserted posterior to the equator of the eyeball. It is supplied by the trochle ar nerve on its extraconal aspect. The origin of the inferior oblique muscle is very unique. It orginates from the floor posterior to the orbital margin. It is just lateral to the nasolacrimal duct. It passes laterally, posteriorly and superiorly. It passes inferiorly to inferior rectus muscle. It is inserted into the sclera at the posterolateral aspect of the eyeball. This muscle is supplied by inferior division of the oculomotor nerve. When you inject a local anaesthetic solution into the lateral adipose compartment from inferotemporal needle insertion. It normally blocks the nasociliary, lacrimal, frontal, supraorbital and supratrochlear branches of the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve and the infraorbital branch of the maxillary division. But when u inject into the medial compartment through a needle placed between the caruncle and the medial canthal angle, it blocks the medial branches of the nasociliary nerve, the long ciliary nerves, the infratrochlear nerve and the medial components of the supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves. If an extra supplementary injection is required superiorly, it is important to be careful that the superomedial approach almost inevitably brings the needle into contact with a path filled and packed with nerves, blood vessels and muscles. BLOOD SUPPLY The main artery which supplies the globe and all the orbital contents is the ophthalmic artery which is a branch of the internal carotid artery. It passes into the orbit through the optic canal inferolateral to the optic nerve and within the meningeal sheath of that nerve. The artery tend to pierce the sheath to lie outside it as soon as it enters the orbit. The course of the ophthalmic artery takes an early intraorbital course superior to the optic nerve and inferior to the superior rectus muscle. It then courses towards the medial wall of the orbit from where it runs anteriorly above the medial rectus muscle. So very careful measures are to be taken when injecting needles in elderly and hypertensive patients, it can be tortuous and vulnerable to needle trauma when it bleeds profusely. Venous drainage is through the superior and inferior ophthalmic veins. The superior vein starts deep to the medial part of the upper eyelid from the confluence of the supraorbital and facial veins. It passes posteriorly within the orbit. It receives branches corresponding to those of the ophthalmic artery. The superior ophthalmic vein leaves the orbit through the superior orbital fissure within the annulus fibrosus. The inferior ophthalmic vein arises from a venous plexus on the anterior part of the floor orbit. It passes posteriorly on the inferior rectus muscle passing through the inferior part of the superior orbital fissure draining into the cavernous sinus. Big Light-Animals In Bloom Essay -- Music Review

Big Light-Animals In Bloom San Francisco’s Big Light recently swept into The Saint for a quick lesson in how to squeeze everything you’ve ever learned into your musical offering and make it sound like you’ve done it in your sleep. From the beginning, the band stood way out as something extraordinary. Of course I had expected some kind of jam band centered on peace, love and free love and what I got was a pleasant dose of analog warm 1970s rock and roll cut with a gram or two of slick and polished songwriting. These West coast warriors have spent every waking moment since 2007 getting things right and it’s paying off. I’m a fan of the smart arrangements and composition styles used here, noticing that they throw everything from Beatles tongue in cheek style of double entendres to the delicious guitar mà ªlà ©e of groups such as Cheap Trick and Mott The Hoople into their mix. Speaking of those great bands, singer/songwriter/guitarist Fred Torphy has a very cool Robin Zander/Ian Hunter delivery that works well among the musical action. Picture the eye of a tumultuous storm and that’s where you’ll find Torphy with this band. And Big Light is becoming the perfect storm. Fred Torphy launched Big Light primarily as a springboard for his own material and he enlisted drummer Bradly Bifulco as well as bay area fixture Steve Adams (who also has played with Jack Johnson) on bass. Around 2008 saw the addition of New Jersey guitarist Jeremy Korpas (Days Awake, Green Tag Sale) who came in and really just lifted this band into professional status. His aggressive style and melodic lead work cleared the way for Torphys visions. With the key players in place, Big Light set about the task of moving thru unchartered creative courses and getting mat... ...oring the mutational macabre and all the fears gnashing jaws can muster, The Shore will have you locking your doors and windows up tight. Dunbar has developed an original imprint that stays with you for a long, long time. I see all these flowery descriptions from journalists and critics like â€Å"Poetic† and â€Å"Classic’ But the truth is that Robert Dunbar has come up with a style that doesn’t tread lightly and he has changed our very thought process when it comes to entering these physical places that we’ve always taken for granted. He also told me that we should expect a part three in this ongoing trilogy that will be set in Camden. One thing is for sure; you will never catch me under the boardwalk or out in the New Jersey Pine Barrens alone or with friends†¦ ever again. 12 Step Meeting. Summary

Meeting How did the meeting start? It all started with an opening speech from the guest speaker who was once an alcoholic and has been sober for over rays. Was one of the 12 Steps discussed, or many? Yes, all 12 steps were discussed In brief during the meeting since It was the first 12 steps meeting for this new group. Was there a personal testimonial? Yes, the floor was opened to all members who are willing to share their personal testimonies. Eleven people shared their personal testimonies during the meeting.What did you like about the meeting? The sense of belonging that was given to each member without condemnation was very inspiring to me. Members were able to share their personal alcohol issues without been ashamed or laughed at by other members. What did you dislike? It requires genuine honesty for success. For which individuals does a 12 step approach work best? This works best for individuals who are ready to be committed to the program and also ready to welcome the support group into his life by been open minded.Which individuals does a 12 step not work well? Anyone who doesn't open up to members for support. Please include a one to two page typed summary of the meeting which incorporates an overview of the meeting along with your thoughts, feelings, and overall experience. The guest speaker started by sharing his personal issues with alcohol, how he overcame it and the consequences he suffered while he was an alcoholic.The guest speaker was able to relate with each member based on the common ground they all share that is, alcoholic. He then opens the floor to members to share their personal testimonial with the group. Eleven members stood up to share, and they all began their statement the same way; â€Å"My name is†¦ And I'm and alcoholic†. The 12 steps were introduced to the new members and how to use each step was d iscussed. The speaker spoke about the challenges and temptations he faced in other to remain sober and how he overcame each imitation each day till date.Also, also reinforced on the importance for staying focus and truthful to the program. Each member took the pledge to remain truthful to the program and to stick to its requirements. The meeting was an eye opening experience for me because each member was able to relate with one another regardless of their race, culture or socioeconomic class. They all developed an open relationship with one another. I came to conclusion that, having a sense of belonging is the best support group

1.0 Introduction Employee Empowerment is not something that you simply declare you will initiate and expect that the program will be successful.   It requires good management programs for it to succeed.   This piece purports to show how team building as a management program can be used to make employee empowerment a success. Despite the best intentions of the organizational leaders, upper management support, and opportunities for participatory decision making, the organization could not foster the critical preconditions needed for employee empowerment. Leaders had difficulty expanding the employees’ power and promoting member inclusion. Concurrently, most employees rejected these new opportunities for control and distrusted the leader’s intentions. In order to achieve its goals, Microsoft hires not only graduates who the company believes will contribute by bringing in fresh innovation and ideas for the upcoming generation.   After hiring these employees, the company ensures that these employees are always focussed and are giving their full potential in delivery of services. Eastman Kodak, a company concerned with developing, manufacturing, marketing imaging products and service for consumers has adapted a Kodak and lean cross-dock projects to oversee that the company is successful.   Lean cross-docks create an environment of empowerment by enabling any cross-dock employee to top and seek help to fix problems.   Employees training encourage empowerment by providing the rationale for why processes are performed in a specified manner.   This not only enhances their employee’s understanding of operations but also facilitates operational improvements. It also practices respect for workers starting with worker safety.   Employee safety is particularly critical at cross-dock because of the fast-faced, high volume material flow.   Respect for workers is also communicated by seriously considering employee suggestions for improvement and reviewing them in a timely manner (Child et al, 1994). With the above two examples, it is evident that team building is crucial for employee empowerment to be a success.   For team building to thrive, the executive leadership needs to clearly communicate its expectations for the team performance and expected outcome.   The team members should understand why the team was created.   The organization on its part needs to demonstrate consistency of purpose in supporting the team with required resources. The members also ought to understand the context.   That is why they are participating on the team.   They should understand how the strategy of using teams will help the organization attain its communicated business goals.   Over and above all, the members should define their team’s importance to the accomplishment of corporate goals and understand where its work fits in the total context of the organization goals, principles and visions. For good team building, the members need to have the desire to participate in the team. The feeling that team mission is important should be entrenched in each and every one of them.   They should perceive that service as valuable to the organization and to their own career, anticipate recognition for their contributions and expect their skills to grow and develop on the team. The management also needs to enhance clarity about the priority of the tasks of the team members.   The organization is required to provide business information regularly.   The team members also need to communicate clearly and honestly with each other and bring diverse opinions to the table as ways of addressing necessary arising conflicts. If these suggestions are not adhered to employee empowerment in an organization is doomed to fail.   These are however not the only reason why employee empowerment fails.   Other reasons are explained herein. Firstly, there is lack of a clear definition of empowerment by managers.   Managers need to clarify such issues as what decisions can be made in their absence by the employees, without their permission or oversight. Secondly, the top management sometimes defines the decision making authority and boundaries with staff but then micromanage the work of employees.   This is majorly because the managers do not trust the staff to make good decisions.   If the staff members know this, they will craftily make decisions on their own and hide the results or come to the manager for everything because they do not know what they really can control (Bateman & Snell, 1999). Sometimes, managers abdicate all responsibility and accountability for decision making when reporting staff for instance is blamed or punished for failures, mistake and less optimum results, they flee from empowerment.   This failure to publicly support decisions and stand behind the employees makes them feel deserted.   As a company’s resource therefore, employees need to be organized forcefully enough to achieve the objectives.   A critical feature of successful teams is that they are invested with a significant degree of empowerment or decision making authority. Equally important, employee empowerment changes the manager’s mindset and leaves them with more time to engage in broad based thinking, visioning and nurturing.   This intelligent and production division of duties between visionary leaders, focusing on emerging opportunities and empowered employees, running the business until day to day provides for a well managed enterprise with strong growth potential. The above skills cannot be applied if one does not have the necessary accounting skills. However, my ability to operate computers programmed with accounting software provides room for the implementation of these skills. I properly understand accounting and therefore, recording, analyzing and storing financial information in these spreadsheets becomes easy. During the recording, the ability to check financial records for errors and document the results is a major task for which is necessary to achieve proper results for storing in the database. Mathematical analysis is done on the collected data and corrections are done where necessary before processing the final financial reports. The collected data is classified into records to enhance proper summation. After the records are filled, the numerical data is used to record and maintain journals and ledgers. This clerking process entails having the relevant knowledge in debiting and crediting the total in the special spreadsheet software . This process involves determination and ability to play around with numbers. Having an interest in numbers from a tender age, trying to figure out the outcome of a record at a glance has always been my fascination. This leads to manipulating the numbers to attain a strike of balance especially where balance sheets are involved. This life experience of trying to figure things on my own has proved to be a stronghold in the success of my career. Learning to be an accurate accountant takes time, patience and an eye for detail. A small error may force one to redo a whole spread sheet in such of the erroneous entry. However, practicing numerical patience and being enthusiastic about numbers proves to be handy for any reputable accountant. Since the job involves receiving, recording and analyzing bank checks and cash reports, one has to be vigilant enough to ensure they are operating within the realms of the company regulations as well as authority provisions regulating the business are of operation. The analysis phase is one of the most crucial parts of an accountant. It is at this stage that the competency of an individual is tested. The ability to prepare financial expense sheet of buyers and sellers is another financial factor that determines the future of the firm. Having experience in this field, I am able to project the outcome of certain events and with this knowledge preparing buyer and seller expense sheets becomes rou tine and easy. There are however, some important risk factors to consider during this process. A key to note here is that the business returns must always lie in-between the upper buyer expense sheet and the lower seller expense sheet. If this is not done, one risks running the business at an irrecoverable loss. Â  Projecting the operational budget of the business is also a key for any accountant. Having been in the field for a while, I have learnt that a business will always operate within a given financial threshold. If the economy of the area of operation of the business is stable and growing at a constant rate, the business operational finance can be projected beforehand. This however, cannot be said to be true for unstable economy. The work reduces during the final documentation stage. During my years of experience, this stage seems to be more fun as it involves a majority of the copies obtained during the analysis and reporting stage. The first documentation involves a copy of invoices, financial statements from QuickBooks and also a copy of project requirement specifications. However, if the initial steps were faulty, this error is carried up to this final stage and is only detected during the scrutiny of the documents. It therefore, becomes paramount to concentrate on the initial stages as the final stages are a recap of the same. Investor in the business need to be guaranteed of the business performance and therefore, a copy of the projected business performance schedule should be drafted and submitted. Team Building and Leadership Self Assessment Paper First of all I would like to thank Prof. Bob Marx for his valuable efforts, kindness and time over the 3 days of marvelous journey together. Objective of this paper Through this paper I am trying to describe my job related problem and implement either Four Frame Approach or Situational Leadership Theory to improve it. In the end I will draw conclusions from there. Description of Situation The industry in todays world is growing quickly, and with this increase comes the necessity for more people to manage and lead the growing companies, but this growing need give rise to some prospective questions: Is anyone capable of becoming a leader or a manager? Is there any difference among the two? Can people be taught to have leadership or managerial qualities? Just like many other questions in business; these questions have no one definite answer. I work in a Multi National Company. The company is considered one of the world leaders in automotive products. I work in the Research and Development center of the company and occupy the post of R D laboratory engineer in the Electronic Laboratory. Our laboratory deals in the Validation and Development of automotive products. We are a team of 4 members (Refer Figure 1) who work on different projects. Both personally and professionally we share a healthy relationship and try to maintain a good and positive work environment. The strong point of our team is that we share the burden of work amongst us and help each other when the situation demands. We acknowledge the concept of teamwork and its importance to the success of our team. However, all of us together are still striving towards perfection. The principal problem is the low motivation of our team, may be its primarily because there is no positive communication with our manager. There is neither any feedback nor any assessment of task. He notices good performance but wait until half yearly performance review to express his appreciation. In an effort to achieve good results or meet deadline, he has forgotten about the finer behaviors that make the team better. Its lucid that for a manager its extremely important to be result oriented but at the same time its very important to keep the environment positive. A team means group of people, contributing their knowledge and skills, working together to achieve a common goal. But when a team doesnt perform efficiently its not merely the fault of manager of the team as a whole. We should never forget that there are always two parts to a coin. Now I would like to describe the behavior of my other team members including myself. I am the part of this laboratory from last 3 years. In this past three years I have worked on numerous projects. I am very dedicated and focused towards my work. I hardly ever need any direction from my manager but sometimes a little guidance is required. But every now and then I lose the motivation towards my work due to no feedback and no encouragement. The second lab engineer is a hard working and self directed person. He is working for the company for last 6 years. Since he follows the same monotonous routine for past 6 years, he gets bored with every task assigned. He also shows lack of interest in the work; however he works well with the team. The third lab engineer is a new team member. She is a contractor and has joined our team few months back. Her ambition is to get hired in the organization. She is enthusiastic and eager to learn new things, and always do her tasks well but at the same time relatively less skilled and inexperienced. I also find her sensitive and self critical. She takes things to heart and gets disappointed when things go wrong and then start criticizing the situation. The lack of communication with manager and no individual growth of the group are becoming the important factors for our team ineffectiveness. A new approach to problem solving My seminar on Team Building and Leadership taught me two different approaches of solving the problems. Four Frames Approach and Situational Leadership Theory are tools if used appropriately can help solve most of the professional and personal problems. Before this class I didnt even know if such type of tools existed. I am choosing Situational Leadership Theory for managing my job-related problem. I am trying to understand strengths and weaknesses of my each team members leadership style. Situational Leadership (SLII) suggests that leaders can work in any situation by adapting their behavior accordingly i.e. they should exhibit different behavior as per the situation and it should match the developmental level of the team performing a specific task. Different situations called for different kinds or styles of leadership. SLII defines 4 leadership behaviors: S1 (high-directive but low-supportive), S2 (high-directive and high-supportive), S3 (low-directive but high supportive) and S4 (low-directive and low-supportive) and equally 4 development levels of the follower: D1 (low-competence but high-commitment), D2 (moderate-competence but low-commitment), D3 (moderate-competence but no commitment) and D4 (high-competence and high-commitment). In the next table (Refer Figure 2) I have matched the leadership behavior levels and development levels of my team members: Plan of Action After studying acutely for few days the strengths and weaknesses of my team mates, I decided to apply the Situational Leadership Theory into Action. It was tricky to decide from where to start but I went with my intuition and asked my manager for a meeting. In the meeting I started by explaining him about the Situational Leadership Theory. I drew a chart by explaining the 4 leadership styles and 4 development levels. During the course of meeting, I outlined him at which developmental level we four are and asked him what he felt about it. I emphasized about the importance of giving feedback and providing encouragement, reassurance, support and admiration to acknowledge competence. I acknowledged him for his zeal to achieve the results but at the same time pointed out its drawbacks on the team members. In the end it was discussed that how we can help each other towards achieving same goals. We decided to have a team meeting. In the meeting we discussed about the situation and the SLII theory in detail. I provided them with my feedback on the situation. We shared each others point of view and suggested the ways to make our goal more interesting. We decided that everyone should make an action plan on how to achieve that goal together. My team manager than have one on one meeting with three of us. During our meeting, he valued my coming forward and briefing him on the situation. He appreciated my dedication to work and affirmed me that from now on he will give us the feedbacks regularly. We even talked about my lack of confidence in some tasks and how I can improve it. He recognized that he also needs to improve in some areas. I dont know what he discussed with my team members but I can feel an improved environment than before. Conclusions Its still too early to tell that if the SLII theory had solved the difficulty of our team. But its has definitely helped. And thats a really good start. I can see the improvement in our work and even in myself. I think its better to say that SLII is not just a theory but a model which when applied correctly can yield enhancing results. Self Assessment Paper Managing, understanding, motivation focused on others or yourself are lot more efficient when you understand yourself, and the people you seek to motivate. Understanding personality is also the key to unlock inexpressible human qualities, e.g. leadership, empathy and motivation, whether your purpose is self-development or helping others. With 7 main goals we started our 3 days of beautiful journey on Team Building and Leadership seminar. The principal goals were to learn about myself and my strengths, my growing edge and about each other so we can work together as a high performance team. These goals were well accomplished as the seminar helped me to know more about my elusive qualities and others emotions. It made me realize that I should spend more time in building my strength rather than remedying my weaknesses. In this assignment paper I am going to assess myself on the four main topics of seminar: Emotional Intelligence: Emotional intelligence is the ability, capacity or the skill that influence ones ability to succeed in coping with environmental demands and pressures. It includes the ability to motivate oneself and persist even when one is frustrated, to control ones impulses and delay gratification, to regulate the mood and keep distress from overwhelming the thinking ability, to empathize with others and to hope. Its structure is divided into Personal Competence (Self Awareness and Self Management) and Social Competence (Social Awareness and Relationship Management). With the help of EI Self Assessment questionnaire (Pg 17-20 of the booklet) I interpreted that I have the capacity to correctly manage my emotions and feelings but I lacked in self motivation. I am good in sharing the problems of anyone but I am afraid of taking the risks. The seminar helped me to know my strengths and limits. It helped me realise my capabilities and self confidence. It prepared me to be flexible in handling changes and to react efficiently in pressure situations. The self believe and confidence of Jennifer Connelly in the movie A Beautiful Mind taught me that one should not be afraid of taking risks and initiatives. When one person hesitates because he feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and becoming superior. (Henry C. LINK) Team Building Skills: I was once told that teamwork depends on the performance of every single member on the team. I had trouble understanding it until I was shown how the office computer performs when just one key is out of order. That one key destroys the effectiveness of the computer. Now I know that even though I am only one person, I am needed or essential for the success and fulfilment of the team. Everyone work, think and act in unique ways. A principal reason why teams struggle is due to different styles and approaches to work. It is very difficult to work efficiently in a team without knowing what your style of work. Once you know your style, it is equally important to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of other members. At my work, we are team of 4 members. We trust each other and we work together to achieve a common objective. I learned, from the game which we played last day, that to accomplish a goal we always have to work in accordance with a plan. After the group discussion and feedback, I realized that I was contributing actively in the team and offering the solutions. Everyone was equally focused to win. In the end I was happy to share the responsibility for my teams loss and to get the positive feedback about my role. Situational Leadership: It states that the effectiveness of a leader depends upon how much his leadership style is suited to the characteristics of his group and the nature of the group task. Its a contingency theory that concentrates on team readiness; the more ready the team the less the need for leader support and supervision. The case studies and the questionnaire which we responded in the seminar affirmed me that I have D3 developmental level and I have S3 leadership skills. I knew that I am capable of performing any task but at the same time I am doubtful of my own abilities. The seminar made me realize that I should not be afraid of doing things my way and taking things at my own pace because life is not about giving all or nothing; give what you can. It made me to push myself farther than I thought I could go. I learned a lot about myself and having a blast. I used situational leadership theory to improve my work related problem. I can feel the improvement at my work and the changes in myself. The Four Frames: Just getting the people in the team is not good enough. They have to be told what the goal is. A team consists of different individuals. The objective is to make them all work together like a fist, like a team. This is the job of manager to recognize the major constituencies and to manage conflict as productively as possible. A manager needs a wide range of ways of seeing frames. Frames are the set of assumptions that one carry in head; helps negotiate a particular territory. Reframing is an ability to understand and use multiple perspectives. There are four different frames for Leadership: Structural Frame (how to organize); Human Resource Frame (how to tailor organizations to satisfy human needs); Political Frame (how to cope with power and conflict) and Symbolic Frame (how to shape a culture that gives purpose meaning to work). I still remember Timothy said in seminar that any frame if applied efficiently can solve any problem. But on the contrary, I think that all four frames support each other. The biggest example is RFK High School Case. The situation of the school demands the application of each and every frame to improve problems. Even David King at the end of the day structured everything into four frames. With the help of questionnaire on Leadership Orientations (Pg 22 of the booklet), I recognized that I belong to Human Resource Frame (HR). I am a good listener and my strongest point is interpersonal skills. I am concerned about people and share their feelings. I care and support others and try to keep everyone involved. Conclusions Personally I feel that all the goals of the seminar were entirely accomplished. I learned a lot about myself, my elusive strengths and my weaknesses. I got to know my classmates well and now I am optimistic that we can all work together efficiently in our future projects. I had a lot of fun and it was a fantastic experience. I enjoyed a lot while playing different games and challenged myself to win them. I really appreciated the portrait of David King played by my class mates and that of Chauncey played by Bob. This seminar taught me a lot and it has definitely exceeded my expectation. It was an unforgettable and lifetime experience for me. The seminar changed my vision toward many things. Philosophy of Education As I begin my education for becoming a teacher, I am beginning to make decisions on things such as how I would like my teaching style to be, ways to deal with discipline problems, and how I would like my classroom to be set up. However, I cannot put my ideas into one philosophy. I feel that using many styles of teaching is better than just using one. Some students may learn better with one style of teaching while others may learn better with another. The teaching philosophies I can best relate to are realism, pragmatism, and idealism. The main reason I would like to become a teacher is the love for little kids. I really enjoy being around children. After teaching Sunday School to children up to 8 years of age for over five years, I feel that I can relate to them and connect with them very well. I also feel that students look up to teachers, so they are a very big influence on the children's’ lives. I would love to know that I could make such a big influence on a child’s life. In my opinion teachers have an impact on the life of every student they ever have in class. The appearance of the classroom has a big effect on how smoothly the class will go. The seating arrangement in my classroom will be in a U shape. It will be better with classroom discussion to have the students facing each other. This type of seating arrangement should relax the children and make them feel more comfortable. On the bulletin boards there will be pictures of the students while involved in class activities and students work as a reward for doing well on an assignment. Also on the walls there will be posters to inspire the students. My class ... ...er the teacher will have more time for each student, therefore, the students will get more out of the class than if the class was bigger. I think that smaller schools and smaller class sizes are much better than consolidating the schools into one large school. Teachers should try to make the class as interesting as possible. If the students are interested in learning they will try harder and learn better. Teachers should be a positive influence on their student’s lives. They should not only teach them the basic subjects, but also try to make them become better people by being involved with them. Some parents don’t care how their children act and don’t try to help them overcome problems such as shyness; therefore it is left up to the teacher to help these students. The Weakness of Servant Leadership Essay -- Servant Leaders are Wimps

After reading various essays and commentaries on servant leadership I thought about a criticism of the theory that wasn't addressed in the readings. Are servant leaders taken advantage of and in certain instances seen as pushovers rather than true leaders? If we review the basic concept of servant leadership, my definition would be a leader who does what’s necessary to ensure his followers are successful. Is this what you really want from a leader? In my opinion that answer is no, you want a leader to exhibit these â€Å"I will help you by all means† characteristics in certain situations, but not all of the time. If this is done all of the time I see this â€Å"leader† as a targeted pushover. The lesson commentary referenced the role of parenthood as an example of servant leadership. â€Å"Parents serve their children’s needs so that the children can develop into healthy adults†¦so that they can help their own children develop† (Lesson 11 Comme ntary, p. 2 Houston). Eclipse Aviation Case Study

Eclipse Aviation is a big private jet manufacturer, who does not create new jet aircrafts, but also new jet customers. Their aim is to offer the convenience, performance and safety of private jet travel to be available to more people but not only the elites. So their offers on products are more likely to be affordable, easy to own, easy to operate, but with nice performance capabilities previously found only in military and commercial aircraft.The company seems to have a good idea, but the reality does not go to the right direction. Eclipse Aviation was judged to be bankrupt by the Federal Bankruptcy Court of the United States in 2009. Bankruptcy documents indicated that a total of USD 702. 6 million was owed. After the bankruptcy, the assets were bought by a new company, Eclipse Aerospace, to continue its business. The bankruptcy of the company was due to the problem of the market.The market was expected to have a nice performance, but finally it didn’t develop as well as it was expected. At the same time, many of the startups like Eclipse entered the market. At this point, the rivalry of the competitors was quite high in the market. The current aviation market does not perform well either. According to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), the total worldwide aviation shipments fell by 2. 1% to 369 units in the first quarter of 2012, compared with 377 in the first quarter of 2011.Eclipse has not publicized its orders of the new aircraft, Eclipse 550, of the first quarter of 2011, but according the datasets of its nearest competitors – Embraer Phenom 100 and Cessna Mustang, they didn’t perform well on the market at the beginning of the year. Both of them only delivered 4 and 7 of their lightest jets, compared to the number of 41 and 43 in the first quarter in 2011. It is important that advanced students’ vocabulary continuously progresses. This teaching plan explains how to teach new adjectives. Date: 14 July 2013 Class Level: Level 7 – Advanced Students Length of Lesson:1 hour 5 minutes Lesson Type & Subject:Vocabulary: adjectives. Materials Needed: Pictures of weather, realia (abnormally large fruit/object, flower) and worksheet. Lesson Objective: Students will learn about new adjectives and incorporate them. Descriptions of verbs will be verbal and non-verbal (writing). Assumptions:Students have a good understanding of adjectives and how to order them in a sentence. But students repetitively describe nouns with the same adjectives (describing something as â€Å"amazing† or â€Å"beautiful† frequently, without being aware of other adjectives like spectacular and gorgeous). Anticipated Problems & Solutions: Problem:Committing new adjectives to memory. Solution:Adjective drill – incorporating different nouns to describe. Each team is given a noun, and each team gets five minutes to write a list of sentences with adjectives describing that noun. The lists are compared when the time is up. The team with the most adjectives wins. Strategy 3: Interaction Patterns: T>S & S>S Timing:20 min. Purpose of Procedure: Students produce vocabulary independently and advanced adjectives are reinforced. Production: 1. Students see photos of famous sights – the Egyptian pyramids, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower etc. Elicit where these sights are found and why they were built – teacher assists students if they have never seen or heard about a site before. 2. Students choose their favourite sites. They shortly discuss why they like that particular site, using advanced adjectives to describe what they look like.
